Electric Powered Wheelchair and Scooter Platform Carriers

Electric powered platform carriers are by far the most common method for transporting mobility vehicles. Platform lifts for wheelchairs are almost identical to platform lifts for scooters. The major exception to this rule involves how the mobility vehicle is secured. Electric platform lifts are tailored to automatically lock down a wheelchair or scooter and the locking device is naturally different depending upon what you are carrying. If you are unsure whether your wheelchair or scooter will work with any of our products you should call us for assistance.

Many electric powered lifts have swing away arm options available. A swing away arm allows you to move the lift out of the way to gain access to a rear door or trunk. A very common misconception is that a swing arm will swing away with a wheelchair or scooter loaded upon it. This is incorrect. Platform lifts with swing arms must be unloaded before swinging away from the bumper. The hinge on a swing away is not strong enough to handle the weight of a loaded platform and will attempting to use this feature while the platform is loaded will damage the lift.

Most electric type lifts will fold up against the rear bumper when not in use. This is a critical feature for parking lots as well as storage in most garages. The electric may be wired directly to the cars battery or you may choose to utilize a stand alone battery pack. You should explore stand alone battery packs since recent innovations allow you to charge the battery packs at infrequent intervals.

Electric platform wheelchair lifts work well with trucks, but tailgate use is restricted as a result. You should also bear in mind that most trucks are much higher from the ground than other vehicles. Consider the distance from the platform to the pavement and make sure the lift you purchase has a long enough arm to reach the additional height.

Platform lifts for RVs work exceptionally well. As with trucks however, you must consider the distance from the platform to the pavement and make sure the lift you purchase has a long enough arm to reach the additional height.
