A wise man once told me that almost anyone could be a good manager if they could achieve predictability. If you can plan on what is going to happen it is less costly, and easier to manage any commercial wheelchair lift installation. Your inspector arrives today and informs you that you must leave at least two inches, and no more than three, between the wall of your lift and the wall of your shaft. Unfortunately no one mentioned that the rails on the lift you selected curve out two inches. It's new shaft time. Or how about that hand crank for when the power goes out? The inspector asks how you plan to use it when there is no access through your shaft. Or how about that lift floor that's 2 inches above the ground level that no one mentioned? If your concrete is poured you either have to chip it out or build above it. If you build above it you have to raise the shaft door. And what is a beveled door top for exactly? Well, if you rest your hand on the gate rail, and the door has no bevel, when the elevator goes up it will lend a whole new meaning to 'this little piggy stayed home'.
